Jan Gadow 
Jan is a Martindale-Hubbell AV preeminent rated attorney who temporarily left the practice of law in 2012 after 22 years, most of which had been spent in the private sector (insurance defense, chancery and appellate). She has also served as an adjunct professor of appellate advocacy at Mississippi College School of Law (2006 and 2007). Earlier in her legal career, Jan worked as law clerk to Justice Michael Sullivan (1991-93) and to Presiding Justice Lenore Prather (1993-95), both of the Mississippi Supreme Court. She is an active member of the Mississippi Bar and the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit; an inactive member of the State Bar of Georgia; a member of the Mississippi Board of Bar Admissions sub-committee on Character & Fitness, having served consecutive terms in that position, via appointment, since 1996; and a member of the Mississippi Bar Client Security Fund committee, since 2019. Jan is a member (2014-present) of the University Press Bookfriends board of directors, whose mission is to support the University Press of Mississippi and its authors; a member (2015-present) of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi Disciplinary Board; a member of the Planned Parenthood Southeast Advisory Council (2018-present); and previously served as a Commissioner to the Mississippi Commission on the Status of Women (2015-2019, via consecutive appointments by Attorney General Jim Hood). She is a communicant of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral in Jackson, where she serves as the convener for the Community Partners Commission, as a member of the Pastoral Care Commission, and as an Arise2Read coach tutoring second-graders at a Jackson public school. Jan is the widow of John L. Gadow (married in 1987) and the proud mother of their two children: Gracie, an honors graduate of Millsaps College and currently a student at Mississippi College School of Law; and Will, a student at Delta State University. |
