Alexandra GombarBefore joining WMC as an Associate Attorney in the Washington, D.C., office, Alexandra Gombar (Sasha) was a law clerk for the Honorable Samuel H. Mays at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee in Memphis. Previously, Sasha served as a staff attorney at the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta, Georgia. While working at the federal judiciary, Sasha gained experience with civil rights law, including suits brought under 42 U.S.C. 1983; employment law, including suits brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act; and complex criminal appeals, including those brought under the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, at both the trial and the appellate level. As a law student, Sasha was an articles editor on the Vanderbilt Law Review; received the award for Best Oralist in Vanderbilt’s Moot Court Competition; and graduated Order of the Coif. Sasha is passionate about civil and international human rights, and she interned at the National Women’s Law Center; the Nashville Public Defender’s Office; and the Office of the Legal Adviser at the State Department. Sasha spent her childhood in the Czech Republic and the UK, and her international upbringing gave her a lifelong passion for global issues. She has interned at the United Nations Special Tribunal for Lebanon in the Hague, Netherlands; spent a summer in Kigali, Rwanda researching transitional justice after the Rwandan genocide; and worked at non-profit organizations in Rwanda, Uganda, and Jordan. |
